What investigational drug is involved?

ALTROPANE® is an investigational drug being developed by Alseres to help doctors distinguish Parkinsonian Syndromes from non-Parkinsonian Syndromes in patients with tremors.

When ALTROPANE is given intravenously (into the bloodstream), it accumulates in a specific area of the brain thought to be affected by Parkinsonism. ALTROPANE contains a small amount of radioactivity, which allows doctors to use a special camera to take pictures similar to CT scans called “single photon emission computed tomography” (SPECT) images.

A person with a Parkinsonian Syndrome should have a decrease in ALTROPANE binding. This is the basis for its potential use as a diagnostic test distinguishing Parkinsonian Syndrome tremor from non-Parkinsonian or Essential tremors.
